It’s National Poetry Day on Thursday! And so I have two school libraries to festoon with verse over the next three days, and two poetry competitions to organise. If only there were time to carve statues of the Nine Muses out of that marble that’s just been lying around in the garden; o well! There’s always next year – that’s enough time in which to learn how to be a sculptor, right?
The plan at both schools is to have the teachers tell me their favourite poems, to display these round the libraries. I’m still debating whether or not to get the pupils to guess which teacher goes with which poem. That seems a bit tricky! I’ve also designed a poster, using the official logo and some of the resources from the official website, to advertise the poetry competition. Below is the first draft of the poster for one school; it’s not fancy, but it does the job.
Readers mine, you’re not getting off that easily! Please post the title and author of your favourite poem in the comments, with a link to the poem itself if you know where to find it online (that’s not essential, however). Thank you!
