As I write this, I’m watching the final of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing competition on BBC1. Thus today’s light has to be the light of a glitter ball, to reflect (heh) the competition trophy which is the show’s logo made, uh, flesh – basically a glitter ball with the show title attached to it (have a look here if you must, as my descriptive skills are failing me; it’s not one of the great trophies of history, just to be clear). Although I have just been most condescending, I do love the show, or at least the dancing parts thereof, and would love to have such an opportunity to learn to dance properly. I do like to dance, but lack any training in ballroom and Latin dancing; like every Scot, I learned Ceilidh dancing at school, which is wonderful and chaotic, but this dancing is very different. My favourite dances are the rhumba, the Charleston, the Viennese waltz, and the Argentine tango; I know I am much to shy to even try that last, and probably too self-conscious for the rhumba and the Charleston, but perhaps the Viennese Waltz would be possible! One day…
